The Wayfarer's Guide to Worldbuilding

The Wayfarer’s Guide to Worldbuilding is a tool to help writers, DMs, and creatives build better worlds. Each episode explores one facet of worldbuilding—such as drafting the perfect city map, making a monster, or building an ancient religion—and, with the help of an expert, gives practical advice on how to make these elements realistic.

Along the way, we also compare and contrast these ideas with the great sci-fi and fantasy worldbuilders who came before us: Tolkien, Whedon, Roddenberry, Lucas, Rowling, and so many more. If you love dreaming up other worlds, join us wayfarers as we explore how to make our settings unique, scientific, and magical.

Podcast Host

Emma Skrumeda is a makeup artist, writer, and half-elf Tempest Cleric. She owes her allegiance to the Fire Nation and House Hufflepuff. Emma has been writing since elementary school, and likes to think that she has improved since then. She can usually be found staring at a laptop while muttering about sentence structure and character arcs. Fantasy is her jam, which makes worldbuilding her bread and butter. Delicious.

In the real world, Emma lives in the frozen wasteland known as Winnipeg with her husband (Quynn), their two cats (Arthur and Pippin), and the four plants she has been managing to keep alive (Len, Bertie, Zhu Li, and Treebeard).
